BHARATHIYA VIDYA BHAVAN
SCHOOL
The school is conceptualized around the innate sense of uninhibited freedom and a refreshing attitude of the children and the need to retain a free, open, interactive relationship between the student and the teacher.
The design tries to reflect these qualities in the open planning of the school where the corridors, classrooms, labs, auditoriums, everything open out to the exteriors spaces creating an interesting dialogue. This sense of openness has been carried further in the varying and differing heights of the roof along the corridor, which stimulates and heightens the visual experience of the spaces while maintaining a continuity between the ground floor and all the upper floors.
Since the school has three floors, the upper levels were also given a similar treatment as the ground floor to relieve the sense of height as reflected in the details at the second floor level.
The activities of the school are divided into two separate blocks to preserve a sense of identity for the classrooms without disturbing or overlapping the other activities.
The labs are designed in the second floor sandwiched between the classrooms at the first and third floor level. The ground floor is designed for administrative activities with a small auditorium, which doubles up as a space for Vedic studies. All these activities of the school are designed independently without disturbing the other activities.
The mini amphitheater at the second floor and the small steeped outdoor activity area in the ground floor between the two blocks serve to initiate interactions between different classes, and the faculty. This also provides the children an interactive space to revel in the cultural and literary activities fostering a sense of belonging.
